Many of us go from day to day wondering what if. What if every choice was decided for us? What if? Our whole existence was predetermined by some higher power. I know you don’t want to believe that every decision you make is predetermined right? My main character thought the same. Funny thing is that everyone makes mistakes. So what happens when a mistake is made? Say your life. And you’re the only one who knows about it. What do you do? Who can you tell? How do you adjust?

Cassie Marks Was living the good live. He had a great job working at the local hospital. He had a beautiful wife. Everything was just the way he planned. Or so he thought. Funny thing was, he always wonders in the back of his mind what if? See even though his life was great. Cassie had a lot of things he missed out on. Growing up his parents split, he stayed with his dad and then a few years later the unthinkable happened. His mother was killed in a car accident and Cassie blamed himself. Well, let’s be honest. It kind of was his fault. If he hadn't gotten into the argument with his mom then she would have never drank that night. I'm not saying he had control over her actions but someone did. From that point on he made it his life to saving others. Unfortunately he missed out on the most important life...his! But this is where things get a bit strange. See, we all make mistakes because we're human right? Well what happens when those who control our life make mistakes? Poor Cassie is about to soon find out.

The story starts with Cassie at the hospital reading finishing up with some patient check-ins. He makes his rounds then heads back to his office. He takes a moment to call his wife to let her know that he will be pulling another all nighter. He keeps a picture of his mother in his desk that he pulls out. As he does he mumbles to himself "If."

He puts the photo away and continues to work on his patient files. In his office he has a couch that he moves over to after several hours to sleep the night off. He knows all too well the dangers of driving home tired. He has seen way to many patients to risk it. So he crashes out on the couch and sleeps till the next morning.........
